With an unstable economy and Christmas shopping costs looming, anyone who needs to travel this holiday season will be looking for ways to cut costs. Because of “demand”, airlines are able to tack on extra surcharges during the holidays known as “peak travel day surcharges.” Booking your flights early is one way to avoid this extra cost.

Here are several more tips to help the happy traveler save a few pennies and, well…stay happy!

Research the cheapest days to fly with the airline of your choice. Midweek flights are usually cheaper than weekend flights. Consider flying at times of the day that most people don’t want to fly – “red eye” is one example. Check your airline website on average of three times a day to see if prices fluctuate. Airlines often lower prices as they need to fill up final seats. And finally, compare prices between non-stop flights and ones where you connect…the inconvenience of layovers just might save you a few bucks.

The key to saving money when it comes to traveling by air this holiday is flexibility. A little research and some savvy scheduling, and you are on your way to friendlier skies!
